BY KORIR JUMA,NAIROBI,1ST SEPT 2017-The head of missions to Kenya have commended the supreme court for its ruling that nullified the August8 presidential elections.
In a statement send to newsrooms Friday afternoon by united states Ambassador to Kenya Robert Godec on behalf of 11 heads of missions representing different countries,the leaders have promised to stand with kenyan people as they reaffirm their democracy which they say is an example for Africa and the world. ”At this historic time, we stand w/Kenyans as they support and reaffirm their democracy, which is an example for Africa and the world ”said the statement.
The statement further congratulated all parties to the petition for upholding the rule of law during the process and being patient until the decision was made .”transparent legal process and the parties’ respect for the Court’s decision reflect the strength of Kenya’s democracy”added the statement.
The head of missions have also urged all parties concerned including IEBC in organizing fresh poll to work hand in hand and ensure that the election will be free,fair and credible as well as peaceful.” Kenya’s electoral institutions must begin preparing 4 a new presidential poll, we urge everyone 2 work 2 make it free, fair, credible, peaceful”it said.
They further added that Court’s independent review has demonstrated Kenya’s resilient democracy and commitment to the rule of law.
