ODM Distances itself from MPs demanding fat cheques

BY JOHN WERU,NAIROBI,24TH AUG 2017-The orange democratic movement party has distanced itself from statements issued by some of its parliamentarians calling for reinstatement of their allowances after the SRC reviewed them downwards. In a statement sent to the press on Thursday afternoon  and signed by ODM  executive director Oduor Ongwen the party says the sentiments issued by a cross section of members of parliament on the same subject are personal views and do not  speak for the party.

The statement further says the party does not in anyway support  misuse of public resources.

Addressing the press at parliament buildings on Wednesday Homa Bay women representative elect Gladys Wanga who is also a member of public service commission had accused Salaries and remuneration commission SRC on embarking on a mission to drastically reduce MPS pay and allowances without having carried out a job evaluation exercise as required by constitution.

The  statement comes after president Kenyatta accused members of parliament advocating for fat cheques .The president who was speaking at the catholic university on Thursday Morning was categorical that he will not support such move.
