BY CORRESPONDENT/JOHN WERU,22ND JULY 2017-The plans to adopt a polling station can not be stopped. This is according to National Super Alliance (NASA) which has vowed to go ahead with the plans despite Acting Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi warning that only officials accredited by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission will be allowed to be around polling stations.
Siaya Senator James Orengo on Saturday 22nd July accused the Executive of usurping the role of Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) in giving the warning saying that they will not be threatened by the directive of the CS.
Orengo says they will not abandon their plans to closely monitor the polls and address any form of electoral malpractice.
Addressing a press conference at the Kisumu International Airport, Orengo blamed the Executive for meddling in the electoral process.
He says police officers who will be manning the process should now be under the command of IEBC officials.
The siaya senator was categorical that the Executive is trying to influence the coming polls through CS Matiangi who is giving directives which are “baseless and irrelevant.”
Orengo also accused IEBC of failing to rein in on those engaging in electoral misconduct and malpractice.
He says the IEBC has failed to take action on Cabinet Secretaries and other government officials blatantly engaging in politics.
He says they have lodged a complaint with the office of Director of Public Prosecutions but nothing has come of it.
