BY KORIR JUMA,NAIROBI,20TH JULY 2017-The latest opinion poll conducted by trends and insight for Africa firm (TIFA) puts Anne Waiguru ahead of Martha Karua in the Kirinyaga gubernatorial race with 20 percentage points.
According to the poll released on Thursday in Nairobi, Ms Waiguru has 55 per cent approval rating against Ms Karua’s 35 per cent.
While releasing the poll results in Nairobi TIFA chief executive officer Maggy Ireri says the difference in percentage between the two major candidates may be difficult to be recovered for Karua considering the remaining time to the August 8 elections. Ms Waiguru’s popularity seems to be linked to the popularity Jubilee Party enjoys in the county.
The Uhuru Kenyatta party enjoys 95 per cent support while Ms Karua’s Narc-Kenya has a paltry two percent.
The poll which was conducted through face-to-face interviews between July 14 and July 17 indicates that Kirinyaga incumbent governor Joseph Ndathi, who is defending his seat as an independent, has a paltry three per cent support.
Some seven per cent of Kirinyaga voters are undecided but it is unlikely that their number will change the current ratings.
Some 556 respondents took part in the Kirinyaga survey that had a +/-4.4 percent error margin.
