BY NAMULONGO PETER,NAIROBI,8TH JULY 2017-Acting interior CS Fred Matiang’i has begun his duty at the ministry by announcing a curfew that will affect several ares of the Kenyan coast.
In a special notice on Saturday Evening Matiang’i said the move is meant to help security officers best handle the delicate security situation in the region.
This follows an incident where suspected Alshabaab Militia attacked Jima and Pandanguo villages in Lamu Friday Night and hacked to death nine people.
The dusk-to-dawn curfew will affect parts of Lamu, Garissa and Tana River after fresh attacks in the area.
While appointing Matiang’i as acting interoir CS Saturday Morning president Uhuru Kenyatta said the docket cannot fall vacant due to its sensitivity as the country heads to the August 8 General Election.
The appointment of Matiangi Follows the untimely demise of immediate Cabinet Secretary Joseph Kasaine Ole Nkaiserry who passed on Saturday 8th at Karen Hospital in Nairobi.
