BY UPESINEWS CORRESPONDENT,SIAYA COUNTY,26TH– Anti-riot police were forced to intervene and restore order at a NASA rally in Rarieda constituency Siaya county Monday afternoon after youth allied to the area member of parliament Nicolas Gumbo disrupted the rally. The youth who had seated on the periphery of the venue of the rally begun chanting pro Gumbo names and slogans immediately NASA presidential candidate Raila Odinga begun addressing the rally.
The disagreement emanated from the fact that Gumbo has since left ODM and will be vying for the Siaya gubernatorial seat as an independent candidate. The independent candidates are against the six piece voting method that has been adopted by parties.
The fear of the incumbent Siaya Governor Cornell Rasanga who is seeking to defend his seat on an ODM ticket being supported by the party leader Raila Odinga at the expense of the current Rarieda Member of parliament Nicolas Gumbo who will be going for the governor seat as independent candidate is largely seen as what contributed to disruption of Odinga rally on Monday.
Odinga who was accompanied by NASA co-principal Musalia Mudavadi and Siaya senator James Orengo left the venue on an helicopter to Bondo for another stop over before addressing a major rally in Siaya. Earlier Odinga who campaigned in Sega in the county accused the Jubilee government over corruption that led to poorly constructing of Sigiri bridge in Budalangi which collapsed Monday Morning.
Odinga said use of poor quality material and corruption had led to the collapse of the bridge which was constructed by the national government at a cost of ksh 1.2 billion. He said if elected into office the NASA government will reconstruct the bridge using the best possible materials.Odinga also visited ugunja.
