Survey by Africa Election Observation Group puts Kenyatta ahead of Odinga

BY JOHN WERU,NAIROBI,8TH JUNE 2017-A  survey  carried out   by an election l observers  group by name  African Electoral Observation Group, indicates that  President Uhuru Kenyatta will emerge victorious in the first round with a 51.7% approval rating against Mr Odinga’s 39% approval rating.

In 2013, President Kenyatta beat Mr Odinga by over 800,000 votes after garnering 6,173,433 votes (50.51%) against Mr Odinga’s 5,340,546 (43.7%).

In 2013, 12.3 million registered voters – an equivalent of 86% – cast their ballot.

It  also shows that   least 89% of the registered voters will cast their ballot on August 8. This means that 16 million voters of the 19.2 million registered voters will cast their ballot.

The African Electoral Observation Group survey further shows that areas perceived as Jubilee strongholds will record higher voter turnout compared to areas perceived as Opposition, NASA, strongholds.

 It also shows that the number of undecided voters in Western Kenya and Coast regions is the highest.

The survey also shows that the level of pre and post-election violence diminishes at the national level and grows at the county level.
