BY JOHN WERU/EURIDICE NZIOKA,NAIROBI,4TH MAY 2017-Traders at the Tsunami Market in Ngara Nairobi are counting massive losses after fire destroyed Property worth millions of shillings early Sunday.Follow up by UpesiNews at the area found out that the fire broke out around 3:30am and spread quickyly razing down several stalls.
Speaking to the media, traders who lost their goods in the incident have accused Nairobi County’s fire department for failing to respond in time despite having information on the tragedy early enough.
“We tried to combat the fire but in vain. Fire fighters came late but they even didn’t have enough water to put out the fire,” said one of the aggrieved traders.
The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, but traders said they suspect that unscrupulous business people in the city, who want to occupy the market, are behind it.
“We don’t know the source of the fire but we know there are influential business people people who did not want us here in this market,” they claimed .
The traders are now asking the government to step in and help them construct permanent stall as the make shift ones they have are a fire hazard.
