BY NAMULONGO PETER/JOHN WERU,KASARANI,NAIROBI,1ST JUNE,2017-Drama ensued Thursday, June 1 morning at the Kasarani Indoor Arena, after Nairobi gubernatorial aspirant Miguna Miguna who had gone to seek clearance from the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to run for elective seat on August 8 independently turned violent attacking the officials and the media.
Miguna Miguna who was agitated walked away from the IEBC officers’ desk, when he was told to present the needed 500 signatures from Kenyan voters, who do not belong to any political party, in an excel sheet and not in JPEG format.
Miguna also walked away from a local TV station reporter who had requested for an interview with him after submitting his papers only to return back for an interview with the same journalist .
Upon returning to the interview set, Miguna Miguna said that the decision to have him and other gubernatorial hopefuls present signatures on an excel sheet and not JPEG format was an afterthought that had not been communicated to him earlier.
“IEBC’s demand to have the signatures presented on an excel sheet is not a requirement by law. They had not said that before. They said they had been called by their legal department to require that that is done today (June 1). So, I have told them I am doing that right now,” said Miguna.
“So, the fake news that you guys (media) keep on pumping Kenyans with – that Miguna has been blocked from vying by the IEBC, that is completely false. I have more than 5, 000 names, not the required 500, but you will never report that because your agenda is to promote the interests of the thieves, the crooks and the drug dealers.
“Your (media’s) agenda will not succeed because you are working for crooks and a time has come when the brown envelope journalism will come to an end. I am here in Kenya to put it to an end. I am here to tell you that you will not sabotage Miguna.” he rattled.
Drama did not end there after it was discovered that Miguna had presented a different person as his running mate Besides James Gathungu who is a university student he had unveiled on May 13, Miguna said: “I have a choice to pick whoever I want as a running mate. Until I am fully compliant, you will be able to report who my running mate is. Peter Kenneth changed his running mate, have you raised questions about that? I am allowed to choose my running mate when I want to choose one. Whoever the running mate I have unveiled to Kenyans is the running mate.” he fumed
Miguna Miguna would later head back to the IEBC desk, where he was attended to.
Miguna Miguna, who will run for Niarobi governor as an independent candidate, will battle it out with Jubilee Party’s Mike Sonko and ODM’s Evans Kidero on August 8 General Election.
