The new COG chair Josephat Nanok-FILE
BY JOHN WERU,NAIROBI,22ND MAY 2017-Turkana county governor Josephat Nanok is now the new chair of the council of governors.Nanok who takes over from Peter Munya will lead the council charged with overseesing successful implimenation of devolution in the country for the next two months before elections are held.
He was elected unopposed by the councils meeting held in Nairobi Monday.Nanok will be deputised by Kiambu governor William Kabogo.
At the event the outgoing chair Peter Munya who is also the governor for Meru county highlighted some of the gains achieved under his two year administration.Munya said despite challenges such as graft in counties much had been achieved especially in Agriculture,infrustructure and education. The council of governors has been at the center of the development achieved under devolved system.
Munya also blamed the national governmet for being an impedment on the way of implenting development projects by governors through delayed disbursment of funds meant to be channeled into the developments of the counties.
He urged for a change of the same atitude in the future saying things must be done diffrently going forward.
