30,000 Metric tones of imported maize arrive at the portof Mombasa

BY JOHN WERU/CORRESPONDENT,12TH MAY 2017-The cost of maize meal is set to drop in the coming next few days after 30,000 metric tones arrived at the port of Mombasa Friday 12TH MAY 2017.

The maize on board MV  Manila cargo ship from Mexco landed early Friday Morning.Addressing  the press Agricultural Cabinet secretary Willy Bet says more ship will come from south Africa and Zambia.More will also come from Ethiopia.

The CS says he is confidence that normalcy will return very soon in the country.He also added that the government was  working hard also to bring under control  scarcity of other  basic commodities such as milk with plans already underway to important some more from outside to supplement local production which has been depressed due to biting drought than has hit the country in the recent days.

This happened even as government spokesman Erick Kiraithe apologized to Kenyans for isueing contradictory statement concerning the same aid on Thursday.

Kiraithe who had addressed the press claimed that a total of 60,000 metric tonnes of maize from Mexco had already landed at the port of Mombasa.

However on Friday it was established that only 30,000 metric tonnes of maize had arrived in the country early Friday and not Thursday as reported by government spokesman.Who also  had reported the wrong figure of quantity of maize.

Addressing the press Friday kiraithe however said the mix up was due to insufficient information he had received from concerned authorities on Thursday before he addressed the press.
