A woman collapses and dies as she underwent police recruitment process in Webuye

BY KORIR JUMA/CORRESPONDENT,11TH MAY 2017-The national police service has kicked off its  nationwide  recruitment aimed at  filling  10,000 vacancies in the service countrywide.

Thousands of young men and women thronged recruitment centres across the country  Thursday  to try their luck, with some being turned away due to lack of documents.

In Bungoma, the recruitment kicked off on a sad note  after a 27-year-old woman fainted and died in a Webuye hospital.

Nipher Wamocho of Lugusi Village collapsed during an athletic exercise after fainting at Pan Paper Stadium and efforts to resuscitate her failed at the Webuye Sub-County Hospital, also called Nyayo.

National Police Service Commission (NPSC) chairman Johnston Kavuludi said it was unfortunate that Ms Wamocho died when she was ready to serve her country.

Confirming the incident in Webuye after meeting family members, Mr Kavuludi said the agency was working on how to help the family.

“We are very sad that we have lost a Kenyan who had a future,” he said.

A spot check by upesinews.co.ke across various centers in the country has shown that the exercise was largely successful with many kenyans turning out.
