BY NAMULONGO PETER,NAIROBI ,9TH MAY 2017-National Super Alliance NASA co principal and  flag-bearer Raila Odinga  has spoken after the US government suspended  funding for the Ministry of Health. In a statement  Issued  from Jerusalem Israel and seen by upesinews.co.ke,  the opposition leader has  singled out  corruption in  Jubilee government which he says is the major reason behind the move by the US government to  suspend  aid  to the most key ministry in the country. Raila also blamed Uhuru’s government for failing to fight corruption.
Raila who is on a Visit   to Israel  has linked the sanction by USAID to the infamous KSh 5.3 billion scandal that rocked the Ministry of Health. “We expressed concern that the mess at the Ministry of Health could antagonise donor agencies that have been at the forefront of financing key health programmes like HIV/AIDs, Malaria, TB and maternal and child care unless it was addressed comprehensively and expeditiously with the criminals punished,” the statement read.
Raila also expressed his concern that Kenyans living with HIV/AIDS will suffer due to shortage of anti-retroviral drugs. “Today, what we feared has come to pass. The US government has taken the unfortunate step of suspending its support for Kenya’s health sector because of corruption in the parent ministry.
This effectively puts to an end years of work that USAID through the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) has done to combat the HIV/AIDS,” he said .
This comes even as the Cs for health Cleopa Mailu assured the country that the US decision will not affect the delivery of essential health services to Kenyans.
