BY NAMULONGO PETER,NAIROBI,7TH MAY 2017-The victory of Ms Wavinya Ndeti once more in Wiper party nominations exercise repeated Saturday is an indication of a strong party and a demonstration of massive support from Ukambani the Kalonzo Musyoka led party commands. Wavinya victory comes barely two day after her nomination was declared null and void by the Political Parties Tribunal.
Machakos Deputy Governor-Bernard Kiala had contested Ms Ndeti’s initial victory, causing the party to hold a repeat exercise on Saturday, May 6.
The former Kathiani MP’s popularity was affirmed when she got 227,947 votes to Kiala’s 4,508 votes in the repeat exercise.
Mr Kiala had earlier boycotted the primaries, claiming that Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka had planned to rig him out.
Ms. Ndeti however will now have to square it out with the incumbent Dr. Alfred Mutua in the coming August 8 general elections.
Governor Mutua was elected on a Wiper Party ticket back in 2013 but has since defected to his newly-formed Maendeleo Chap Chap (MCC) – an outfit that is allied to President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee Party.
Both scenarios will have a major impact in the region’s political scene on one side Kalonzo Musyoka, will be keen to watch as Wavinya Ndeti goes against Dr Mutua in the August elections a win for her will assert Kalonzo political supremacy in the region, while a win to Dr. Mutua will deal a blow to his reputation as the region’s kingpin.
