BY SAMSON MBII,2ND MAY 2017-Real Madrid host city rivals Atletico Madrid in Champions League semifinals first leg tie, with Zidane’s men holding the upper hand in recent meetings.
Tuesday’s clash will see the two sides meet in UCL for the fourth successive year, Real Madrid winning all three previous matches including two finals in 2014 and 2016. Atletico, who have been hit by injuries are seeking to overcome Real Madrid who are on a good form after kicking out Germany machines Bayern Munich out of the competition.
Los Blancos boss Zinedine Zidane says past victories over their city rivals will not determine Tuesday’s semi-final. Atletico lost to Real in the semi last season’s final and also lost 4-1 in extra time in the 2014 clash. -It’s a completely different tie and they will be doing their utmost to go through as well. We can’t rely on the past, said Zidane.
Real Madrid will be without Gareth Bale who is sidelined with a calf injury, with Isco expected to to take his place in Madrid’s front three. Rodriguez and Morata remain options.
Atletico will be without three defenders, centre back Jose Gimenez (groin), Juanfran (thigh) and Sime Vrsaljko (hip). Belgium winger Yannick Carrasco is doubtful with a collarbone injury.
