President Kenyatta leads the nation in marking the 52nd labour day

President kenyatta arrives at Uhuru park for this year’s labour day


BY NAMULONGO  PETER ,NAIROBI,1ST MAY 2017-President Uhuru Kenyatta on Monday led the nation in marking the 52nd Labour day Celebrations in an event held at the Uhuru park In Nairobi.Central organization of trade union Francis Atwoli called upon the government to give workers  at least 22 percent salary increment  so as they can be able to manage the high cost of living.

On his part Nairobi governor Evans Kidero calling upon the government  to lower the cost of maize meal which he termed as an unattainable  to many low income earners in the country.


Others who spoke  included the  secretary general of trade union organizations of Kenya Wilision Sossion and Janckiline Mugo who is the chair person  of federations of employers of Kenya.On his part Sossion lamented about  the many challenges faced by workers ranging from low income to poor working conditions


.He called upon the government to ensure that all agreement reached between the government and workers are implemented on time so as to avoid  unending strikes that have always characterized the public service sector.


He also called upon the government to lift the ban on employment in public sector which is currently in place so as to absorb many young people who despite having good qualification can not secure employment.
