Government increases minimum wage by 18%

BY KORIR JUMA/JOHN WERU,1ST MAY 2017-During this years labor day celebrations ,the government has announced an 18 percent increment of salary to the lower wage earners in the public service sector. Making the announcement when he led the nation in marking the 52ND labor day celebrations held at the Uhuru park in Nairobi Monday president Uhuru Kenyatta says the move is aimed at cautioning the workers against high cost of living.

The new increment   now means that the lower income earner will take home at least 14,600 a moth going forward.The president also urged Kenyans to form a tendency of buying locally manufactured products especially textile   in order to create employment opportunities for the youth and grow the economy.

On her part the chair person of Federation of Kenya employers Jackline Mugo urged the government to also consider lowering the cost of basic commodities in the country to make make life affordable for ordinary mwanachi.
