ODM cancels nominations results for Migori,Homaby as Obado and Ayacko both claim victory

BY NAMULONGO PETER/JOHN WERU/CORRESPONDENT,25TH APRIL 2017-ODM nomination exercise in two counties Migori and Homa Bay have been canceled after two gobernatatorial aspirants Achilo Ayako and the incumbent Migori governor Okoth Obado  declared themselves victorious.In  Homa Bay county the situation was similar after governor Cyprian Awiti and senator Moses Kajwang all claimed victory in the nomination exercise held on Tuesday.

In Migori the returning officer for the county election board  , Samson Olala –had declared governor Obado as the winner after getting 110,142 votes in the earlier hours of the day.This was followed by strong opposition from Ayako who claimed that the   official   is allied to Obado’s camp and that the results were not true before  moving to court to obtain an order barring Obado from being declared a winner.

He later on emerged in the afternoon Tuesday claiming he was a genuine winner of the exercise. Ayacko, via County Elections Committee Chairperson, Tom Boy Otike, has made a new announcement, declaring Ayacko the winner.According to results relayed by Otike, who claims to be a returning officer, Ayacko had garnered 110, 350 votes against Obado’s 68, 464.

The move led to tension rising in the county .The exercise will now be repeated on Sunday in the two counties    as well as in Nairobi county.The party has decided to give its secretary general Hassan Joho the responsibility of managing the exercise in both counties come Sunday 30TH APRIL 2017.

Addressing the press in Serena hotel Nairobi Tuesday afternoon Orange democratic Movement party ODM secretary general and the party’s  national election board chair Judy Pareno condemned in the strongest possible terms violence witnessed in the counties of Migori, and  Homa Bay  during its primaries saying such will not be tolerated.

The two  said any aspirant caught inciting violence will be banned from any political contest and their candidature withdrawn.  This came even as the two returning officers in Migori who announced different results favoring governor Obado and gubernatorial aspirant Achilo Ayako as winners each were shown the door.
