Stiff competition witnessed among aspirants as ODM hold primaries in four coastal counties

BY NAMULONGO PETER,CORRESPONDENT,22ND APRIL 2017-The coastal counties of Mombasa  ,kwale ,kilifi   and Tana river have witnessed a beehive of activities Saturday when the orange democratic movement ODM paryy held its primaries.Notable is stiff competition bewteewn varoius aspirants  with   Malindi MP William Mtengo  facing a stiff challenge from woman rep Aisha Jumwa.

several challenges ranging  from   late arrival of voting materials to missing of aspirants names in the list of party registers among others.Journalists were also not speared with police at Kwashee pollling centre in Jomvu, Mombasa County  confiscating  a phone from a Nation correspondent covering the ODM party primaries.

The police said they were unhappy with journalist Winnie Atieno taking photos and videos of the skirmishes at the centre.

In Mwandoni, Mombasa, police arrested two MCA aspirants for creating disturbance, Mombasa police commander Peter Maelo said.

In Jomvu constituency, supporters of aspirant Dan Aloo stormed Banglesh polling station and destroyed voting materials.

In Mkaomoto polling station in Malindi, Kilifi County police arrested one person on claims of causing chaos.
