BY NAMULONGO PETER,NAIROB,14TH APRIL 2017-.The Orange Democratic movement National election board has nullified the results of the Gubernatorial race nominations conducted Thursday. The decision follows the stand off between the Busia incumbent governor Sospeter Ojamong and Funyula Member of parliament Paul Otuoma. The exercise will now be repeated on Friday the 25th April 2017. Ealier Friday Supporters of Funyula MP Paul Otuoma went on the streets of Busia town to protest the announcement of Busia county Governor Sospeter Ojaamong as the ultimate winner of the ODM party primaries conducted Thursday.
“No Otuoma no Raila” rented the air as supporters alongside Otuoma marched through the border town.
Tension remains high in the town as heavy security deployed to man the party nominations standby for any eventuality.
“I have rejected the votes’ outcome in totality; I will petition the ODM elections board to reject the poll outcome. The figures giving Ojaamong the win are cooked and fabricated,” said Otuoma.
County Governor Sospeter Ojaamong emerged the winner with 92,358 votes ahead of Otuoma who garnered 63,752 votes.
What Otuoma is disputing is the high turnout of voters in the two constituencies of Teso North and Teso South, the strongholds of the incumbent.Earlier, allegations had erupted claiming that Otuoma had defected to the Jubilee Party after leaflets distributed in Busia indicated so. Otuoma, however, rubbished the claims, calling them desperate move by his opponents who already sense defeat.
