BY JOHN WERU,NAIROBI,12TH APRIL 2017-The current Bomet governor Isaac Ruto and Deputy Speaker Joyce Laboso are neck to neck in the Bomet gubernatorial race ,this is according to a survey conducted by Infotrak Research and Consulting .
The two are only a point apart with 39 per cent of those surveyed saying they will vote for Ruto in the August General Election while 38 per cent say they will vote for Laboso.
The infotrak poll also indicates that governor Ruto’s Chama Cha Mashinani is second in popularity in the county with 12 percent compared to the Jubilee Party which has 74 per cent.
Meru Governor Peter Munya who took over from Ruto as the Chair of the Council of Governors appears to be faring better according to the pollster, with 41 per cent of the 1,350 surveyed in the county between March 29 and 31 saying they will re-elect him compared to 29 per cent who say they will cast their ballot for his competitor and current Senator, Kiraitu Murungi.
Mithika Linturi leads the pack in the Meru Senatorial race at 35 per cent while Wilfred Lesan leads in Bomet at 24 per cent compared to Nick Salat’s 13 per cent.
Infotrak’s Marry Mburu says the competition in percentage between various candidates vying for various seats is likely to be even tougher as the general elections approaches.She says in the next few weeks after the official launch of the campaign period it will provide a more clear picture concerning various candidates depending on the kind of campaign strategy they mount.
