NCCK urges Politicians to campaign in peace towards August 8th polls

BY KORIR JUMA/NAIROBI,3RD APRIL,2017-Politicians have been urged to maintain peace even as they carry on their campaigns as the country draws near to the August 8th polls.The national council of churches NCCK through its secretary general   Canon Peter Karanja says politicians  have a personal responsibility to  ensure that the August poll do not turn out chaotic.He says Kenyans can no longer afford to  go the 2007/8 route that saw over  1000 people dead owing to the post election violence.

He was speaking in  consultative meeting in Limuru Monday which brought together security officials,the independent Electoral and boundaries commission IEBC and religious leaders from nairobi to discuss ways of ensuring that Nairobi remained peaceful during and after the general elections.Canon Karanja also asked for a fair playing ground to be accorded all candidates who will be vying for various sits in the coming elections so as no faction feels disenfranchised.
