BY JOHN WERU/CORRESPONDENT,NAIROBI,25TH MARCH 2017-Samburu County Governor Moses Lenolkulal has made a passionate appeal to  Kenya Meat Commission (KMC) to speed up the process of paying herders for their livestock that were bought and slaughtered in a government-sponsored offtake program.

Governor Lenolkulal said he had received complaints that KMC contractors have delayed payment to pastoralists.

“We want to urge the people involved particularly the contractors engaged by KMC to make sure that they deliver payments to the pastoralists,” said Lenolkulal.

The governor said that it is a double tragedy to come on the ground, intervene on behalf of the suffering population and rob them off their incomes through the offtake program.

Chris Lenaisho, a Samburu resident, called upon the national government to ensure the pastoralists are paid timely.

“Some people were told to sell their livestock to pay for their children’s school fees but up to now nothing has been paid,” lamented Lenaisho.

Joseph Lemoosa, another resident, asked the national government to follow up on their livestock that were taken by KMC to ensure they have been paid.
