BY NAMULONGO PETER/CORRESPONDENT,NYERI,27TH FEB 2017-The immediate former Nyeri county deputy governor Ambassador Samuel Wamathai has been sworn in as the governor of the county following the demise of Nderitu Gachagua.

The swearing-in ceremony was presided over by Justice Jairus Ngaah in presence of the Council of Governors Chairman Peter Munya, Nyeri Senator Mutahi Kagwe, Tetu MP Ndung’u Gethenji, Gachagua’s widow Margaret Karungaru Nderitu, members of the Nyeri county assembly and the new county First Lady Leah Njoki Wamathai.
Wamathai holds a Bachelor’s degree in Air and Space Law from McGill University in Canada.
He has served as a Deputy Permanent Secretary in the national government and he has also served for ten years as permanent representative of Kenya to the United Nations office in Montreal, Canada.
Before joining active politics in 2007, Wamathai served as Deputy Regional Director in the United Nations office based in Nairobi.
According to Gachagua’s younger brother Rigathi Gachagua, Gachaguas body will be flown in to the country on Thursday morning awaiting burial.
