BY KORIR JUMA,NAIROBI,20TH FEB,2017-Deputy President Press Service says it is the constitutional right for the Jubilee Party to seek the services of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) in conducting its primaries.
Mr Ruto told off Opposition leaders for threatening to move to court to stop IEBC from conducting the Jubilee Party primaries set for April.“We are consulting IEBC with a view to seeking its services in conducting our primaries because it is our constitutional right to seek the agency’s services on matters of nominations,” said Mr Ruto.
Addressing Jubilee leaders from Nyamira County in his Karen office on Monday, the Deputy President told Opposition leaders to concentrate on matters pertaining to their house instead of criticizing plans by Jubilee Party to seek services of IEBC in conducting its primaries. There has been criticism towards Jubilee party since its announcement that it will seek the services of the electoral body in conducting its party primaries. The opposition claim that the move is likely to jeopardize the newly reconstituted IEBC and to a larger extend may interfere with plans for credible elections come August 8,2017.
There has also been a another issue to do with funding with many feeling that the tax payers money may be used in running the primaries which are without dodut likely to be an expensive venture. However speaking in Garrisa over the weekend the leader of majority ion parliament Aden Duale insisted that the Jubilee party will conduct its primaries with IEBC .He says parliament already passed the budget to fund the exercise and no taxpayers cash will be lost.
