Police arrest two Islamic State suspects in Mombasa as war on crime is intensified

BY NAMULONGO PETER,NAIROBI,18TH FEB,2017-Police have in Mombasa have  arrested two suspected members of the Islamic State in Mombasa.

Nasra Hyder Faiz and Salim Mohammed Rashid were arrested on Saturday after returning from Syria where they had joined ISIS.

 The two were arrested during a dawn operation within Kizingo and were being interrogated by anti-terrorism police officers from both Nairobi and Mombasa.

Reliable intelligence reports say that the two were arrested by Turkish authorities while sneaking from Syria in November 2016 after having gone for training with ISIS.

“They were deported from Turkey but managed to sneak into the country through the help of their relatives who had been habouring in their homes in Mtwapa and Kizingo estates “ a senior ATPU officer said.

According to sources, Turkish authorities informed the Kenyan Government about the two and were being monitored by officers from both nations.

Last year, two medical students were arrested in Malindi for alleged links to the Islamic State.

Mohamed Shukri and Abdulrazak Abdinuur were arrested during a joint operation by Mombasa and Nairobi anti-terror police.

The two are attached to Malindi sub-county hospital.

The two were on  a mission   to acquire fake travel documents to facilitate their escape to Somalia.
