BY NAMULONGO PETER,NAIROBI, 6TH FEB 2017-Council of Governors says it has reached an agreement with each governor to contribute Sh1mn to the Kenya Red Cross famine kitty. (CoG) Chairman Peter Munya who addressed the press Monday afternoon says in addition, each Governor has been asked to make a personal contribution to support areas affected by drought.
The CoG is further urging the National Government to convene a summit to discuss short and long term measures that should be employed to deal with the current situation.Munya says the current famine should be declared a national disaster.The Council wants the government to coordinate interventions to ensure those affected by famine get urgent assistance.
Munya also revealed that the council had send a representative to the mediators who are spearheading talks aimed at ending the doctors strike that has entered its second month.He appealed to doctors to step down from their hardstands so as to facilitate a smooth process that will bring an amicable solution.
