Police arrest man with heroin worth Sh10m in Mombasa

BY UPESI NEWS CORRESPONDENT,MOMBASA,3RD FEB2017-In what is seen as intensified war on drug trafficking at the kenyan coast,Police in Mombasa are holding a man who was arrested while trafficking heroin worth Sh10 million through Moi International Airport.Mr Mohamed Jabir was seized on with the hard drug hidden in the sole of his shoes.Airport police chief John Otieno said the suspect was arrested Thursday night as he prepared to to board a Rwanda Airways plane to Dubai.

1 KILOGRAMME

“The suspect is in our custody we have already called an expert from the Government Chemist so that we can ascertain the quantity of the substance” said Mr Otieno.According to police sources, the heroin is one kilogramme.

AKASHA CASE

Airport manager Yatich kangugo said they were committed to ensuring the airport is not used as a drug transit corridor. The arrest comes days after President Kenyatta declared war on drug barons in coast.Two suspected drug barons in Mombasa, Baktash Akasha and Ibrahim Akasha, were arrested and extradited to the US to face drug trafficking charges.Others facing charges are Ghulam Hussein and Indian national Vijaygiri Goswami.Their case has started before a New York court.
