BY NAMULONGO PETER,NAIROBI,30TH JAN,2017-Moussa Faki Mahamat from Chad has been elected the chair of the African Union commission taking over from Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma.Moussa was elected by 39 head of states who voted in the elections held at the AU headquaters in Addis Ababa Ethiopia on Monday. He was s born on June 21, 1960 in the town of Biltine in eastern Chad. He was the Prime Minister of Chad from June 24, 2003 until February 4, 2005, and is a member of the Patriotic Salvation Movement.

Other candidates in the race were Kenya’s Foreign affairs Cabinet Secretary Ambassador Amina Mohamed ,Senegal’s Dr Abdoulauye Bathily ,Equatorial Guinea’s Mba Mokuy and Botswana’s Pelonomi Venson Moitoi. The decision was arrived at after voting for the seventh round.
