BY NAMULONGO PETER,NAIROBI,17TH JAN,2017-Retired ACK Archbishop Eliud Wabukala is the new chairman of the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).
Mr Wabukala’s appointment by President Uhuru Kenyatta was approved by the National Assembly on Tuesday afternoon.
He replaces Mr Philip Kinisu who was hounded out of office after he was adversely mentioned in Sh791 million scandal that rocked the National Youth Service.
During the Tuesday special sitting, MPs supported Mr Wabukala’s nomination, saying as a church leader, he was best placed to lead the commission.
Others praised his integrity and determination to repair the country’s moral fabric.
The House is currently debating the suitability of advocate Wafula Chebukati to chair the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission and six commissioner nominees.
The House had adjourned the special sitting on Tuesday morning to allow MPs time to read the report of the Justice and Legal Affairs Committee that vetted the nominees.
Majority Leader Aden Duale moved a procedural motion to push back the sitting.
The House also approved a procedural motion allowing debate Mr Wabukala’s nomination for two hours and suitability of IEBC nominees for four hours.
