BY UPESI NEWS SPORTS TEAM,NAIROBI,8TH JAN 2017-The Koth Biro champions have been announced with the honors going to A 1000 Street FC for the third time in succession after beating Pumwani All Stars 1-0 in a thrilling final played at Ziwani Grounds in Nairobi on Sunday.
David ‘Kangi’ Mwangi was the hero for the victors with his winning strike in the 50th minute of the match after the teams changed sides level 0-0 at the break.
The winners were on the back foot in the opening exchanges as Pumwani enjoyed a better start and created several clear cut chances with Jesse Were spurning a great opportunity when he fired inches wide in the 32nd after leaving A 1000 defenders in knots.
Moments later the Harambee Stars and Zesco United forward exchanged passes with Joshua Oyoo to advance to the box but was once again wasteful in front of goal to leave the game goalless at half time.
The second half was a sharp contrast to the first with the pace starting on a high as the goal search intensified.
Mwangi headed home a Robinson Kamura free-kick to convert A 1000’s first meaningful chance on goal in the well attended final of the estate tournament.
Pumwani reacted with a raft of substitutions including the foreign based Ismail Dunga but could not press home the equaliser and instead it was the winners who came close to extending their lead.
Subtitute Eric Mata was a menace to Pumwani’s defence and was only prevented from scoring the second for A 1000 in the 70th by keeper Salim Rakula who made a brilliant save with the referee denying the same player a penalty late on.
