IDPS demand for resettlement before August Elections

BY KORIR JUMA,NAIROBI,JAN 2ND ,2017-Internally Displaced Persons across  the country have urged  government to fast track their resettlement and compensation before the August polls.

Led by the Kenya Internally Displaced persons organization’s Chairperson Peter Tena, they were quick to fault officers tasked with managing the compensation program of allegedly colluding with IDP representatives to divert their funds.

Despite the government showing intent to resettle internally displaced persons in the country, several groups of IDP’S have on several occasions raised concerns over delayed disbursement of funds earmarked for their compensation.

However, just recently, the Chairperson of the National Coordination Consultative Committee on IDPs Adan Wachu revealed that the government had released 6 bn shillings to aid in the compensation of IDPs in the country.

But the Kenya Internally Displaced Persons Organization is now pointing an accusing finger at the government for failing to deliver on its promise.

The organization’s lead patron Peter Tena attributes delayed compensations to government officials colluding with IDP representatives to redirect the finances.

Tena challenged the government to apprehend the perpetrators arguing that the Adan Wachu led resettlement committee was best suited to handle the compensation issue.

They now want investigations carried out into the IDPs kitty.
