BY UPESI NEWS SPORTS TEAM,30TH DEC,2016-AFC Leopards Cubs thrashed Sofapaka 2-1  in the KPL U20 tournamannet to progrees  to the final   in the second semifinal of the tournament played at Camp Toyoyo on  Thursday.
Goals from Vincent Oburu and Lucky Safari sealed a final spot for Boniface Ambani’s team despite Sofa clawing a goal back through Isaac Simiyu.
The Cubs were in their usual mood of going ahead and fittingly pounced on an early lead after Vincent Oburu was accorded space after a corner to fire a fifth minute opener past keeper Reuben Juma.
Oburu went close to doubling the advantage in the 27th minute but was denied by a solid block from Kwanya Edmond.
A rather subdued Sofapaka’s Ibrahim Mao sprung into action late to force a briiliant save from Edwin Mukolwe before Brian Kipruto spurned another chance for Ingwe from a counter attacking move.
Not even an excellent save from Juma would deny Cubs of proceeding to the break with a two goal cushion.
A perfectly placed defense-splitting pass set Oburu all alone with the keeper but despite the custodian thwarting the Cubs’ assassin, it was Safari Lucky who poked into a half empty net five minutes to the break.

The second half kicked off with mild attacks traded by either side.Sofa’s Ibra saw his second shot on target being dealt with by Mukolwe moments after skipper Masai has spurned a header from point blank range.

Sofa rejigged matters midway in the final half, sending on Isaac Simiyu and Fidel Olum as Leopards send on Mahab Ogwel in place of an injured Winston Song.

The script of missed chances went on with Oburu stepping past two defenders only to see his swerving effort bounce off the crossbar with Juma well beaten.
The miss was punished immediately as substitute Isaac Simiyu clawed a goal back from the build up that resulted from the miss.
The goal set up a tense end for Cubs to hold on their lines and Sofapaka were all done as Leopards successfully mainatined their guard to advance to the KPL U 20 finals for the first time ever.
