BY NAMULONGO PETER,NAIROBI,22ND DEC 2016-Just a day after the Selection Panel for the reconstitution of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission finished interviewing10 candidates shortlisted for the position of IEBC chairman ,the panel has proposed lawyers Wafula Chebukati and Tukero Ole Kina to be appointed IEBC chairman.The swift move by the team, chaired by Bernadette Musundi, was expected considering the tight timelines which the commission faces which have to be met before the August 2017 General Election.
Among those shortlisted for position of chairperson were former Judicial Service Commission (JSC) Commissioner Florence Mwangangi, lawyers Wanyonyi Wafula, Tukero ole Kina and Lucas Leperes ole Naikuni and former Mombasa Mayor Taib Ali Taib.
SUBMITTED TO THE PRESIDENT
The two names will be submitted to the President who will pick one for the position of the chairperson and forward the name to the National Assembly for approval.
Within seven days of receiving the name approved by the National Assembly, the President will appoint the chairperson and commissioners, by notice to be published in the Kenya Gazette.
