BY UPESI NEWS REPORTER,NAIROBI, Kenya, Dec 13 – CORD leader Raila Odinga says the push by President Kenyatta for kenya to withdraw from the International Criminal Court was was ill advised .
Odinga says instead President Kenyatta needs to lobby for support of the court to ensure justice is maintained even in future in the country especially with the history of election related violence which are synonymous with Kenya and other African countries. Odinga also says president Kenyatta says instead of advocating for the withdrawal from The Hague-based court, he should be thanking it for not locking them up, which enabled them time to campaign for the top jobs in the last elections.
Odinga, who spoke at the Wiper Democratic Movement’s meeting in Kasarani, cited cases of former Cote d’Ivoire President Laurent Gbagbo, LRA’s Dominic Ongwen and Pierre Bemba of the Central African Republic who were arrested and detained during trial.
The CORD leader was responding to President Kenyatta’s Jamhuri Day speech, in which he alluded to Kenya’s exit plan from the ICC.
Odinga has opposed Kenya’s planned exit from the court.
