mwea-irrigation-schemeBY CORRESPONDENT DEC 6TH,2016-Over 10,000 households living in the disputed Mwea Settlement Scheme in Mbeere South, Embu County are a step closer to owning parcels of the lands.

This after the process of sub-dividing the 54,000 acre piece of land kicked off with Embu County officials assuring residents of a smooth process.

The government recently issued titles to all the 7,232 eligible land owners in the entire Mwea Trust Land.

Forty seven government surveyors, have been deployed to spearhead the exercise that will involve installing beacons for seven thousand demarcated parcels and processing of title deeds for beneficiaries.

Embu County Executive for Lands, Josphat Kithumbu who has been involved in negotiations to settle the settlement dispute since 2013 says residents will now be able to enjoy their constitutional rights to land ownership.

He noted that a Dispute Complaints Board has been constituted to resolve arising issues.

Meanwhile, Gachoka MP Mutava Musyimi has threatened to go to court to halt the sub-division claiming there was no public participation before the exercise began and therefore it is not genuine.
