UPESI NEWS TEAM NAIROBI,NOV 17TH 2016-A KCSE examinations invigilator is nursing bullet injuries at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital in Kisumu after he was accidentally shot by a police officer manning examinations at Gagra Secondary School in Rarieda sub-county.
Simon Ong’iti, who is a teacher at Kunya Primary School in Rarieda sub-County, was shot in his left thigh as he and his colleagues were sealing CRE papers at around 10:30 am.
It is said that Sgt Benson Ozeza accidentally shot the invigilator with a bullet from a revolver belonging to his colleague Debra Watuti who was assisting the invigilator with sealing the examination papers that had just been completed.
According to Rarieda sub-County Administration Police Commandant Mr Allan Abungu, who confirmed the incident, the bullet went through Ongiti’s hand before being lodged in his thigh.
He stated that they received the information from the school’s administration and rushed to the scene where they took the invigilator to Bondo sub-county hospital for first aid.
The invigilator was later rushed to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching Referral hospital for further treatment as investigations begin into the matter.
This did not, however, affect the afternoon examination papers, as they went on smoothly as scheduled.
