Observer missions commend IEBC for conducting peaceful,smooth ,urges for calm

BY KORIR JUMA,NAIROBI,10TH AUG 2017-The east African community observer mission has commended the independent electoral commission IEBC for conducting  a peaceful and credible poll.

Addressing the press in Nairobi on Thursday Morning the mission says it followed the voting in 20 counties across the country without any hitch.

They expressed there satisfaction with the peaceful smooth and swift manner the voting was conducted.

They also refused to commend on hacking claims raised by the opposition outfit NASA saying theirs was mainly following up the voting exercise

They however asked IEBC to ensure that in future they find a way of reducing long ques of voters on voting day as well as voting time which they say was still much.

They further urged IEBC to scale up voter education so as to reduce the number of spoil votes.

Earlier the Head of The Carter Centre Election Observer Mission in Kenya, John Kerry, had reiterated the commitment of the international community to continue supporting Kenya in its pursuit of democracy.

The former US Secretary of State told reporters at the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) National Tallying Centre that there was need for leaders to inspire confidence among citizens even as the electoral commission continues to process presidential election results.

 There’re is an ability here which is critical to be able to provide an appropriate, transparent, accountable counting of the ballot,” he added.Kerry called for patience from the electorate until the process of collating the results is concluded.

 He said it was critical that the IEBC is allowed enough room to discharge its mandate without being put under unnecessary pressure.
